Welcome to the final instalment of our reviews of personal finance apps for iPhone and iPads that are designed to help you in your work life. We?ve already looked at apps designed to help you track work time and expenses, and in the last post we reviewed diverse apps to help you get a small business up and running . In our final instalment we?re looking at some diverse apps to help you at work, to find another job, and ? not wanting to be accused of ignoring the future, one to help financial planning in retirement!
7. Linkedin

Platform: iPad and iPhone
Cost: Free
If you?re looking to advance your career, it can only help to have a presence on Linkedin. As well as providing a smart, free way to present your career history, it allows you to seek, approve and then display references from people you?ve worked with in the past, as well as connecting you to potential employers of the future. Linkedin is constantly adding features to both it?s web and app interfaces which today makes it an invaluable source of information about potential employers and employees as well as providing an easy way to reconnect with old colleagues.
You may wonder why we?ve included Linkedin in a review of work personal finance apps when it?s technically a social network, and the answer is quite simply that it?s a great tool to help you find a new job; or to scout for employees if you?re recruiting.
And the app features many useful features such as the ability to sync your calendar to get Linkedin information about people you?re meeting for the first time, view and save recommended jobs, read the latest industry news, keep up to date with your groups and share content with your network.
8. iPAYE Payroll Toolkit
URL: http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/ipayepro-payroll-toolkit/id406132452
Platform: iPad
Cost: ?2.99
Another handy tool for small business owners, iPAYE Payroll Toolkit provides payroll management including comprehensive reporting, printing and backup. Inbuilt tax calculators make it a useful PAYE toolkit that allows you to calculate and forecast net pay.
With the app, you can manage your payroll on a daily basis, produce payslips, and analyse payments and deductions at a given point within the tax year. And with full compliance with HMRC specifications for tax and NIC calculation, it provides a fully featured small business payroll system at the fraction of a cost of competing software.
9. Data Usage
URL: http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/data-usage/id386950560
Platform: iPad and iPhone
Cost: 69p
Another very useful app if you?re self-employed or work away from home frequently. Regardless of what mobile provider you?re with in the UK, all have their own limits on the amount of data you can use each month, and when you reach that limit you can either be slapped with an unexpected charge or cut off from using more until the new month begins.
Data Usage monitors cellular and Wi-Fi data usage by your device in real time. You start by setting your data quota and billing information, and the app runs in the background, periodically letting you know the amount of data used, remaining, and predicted %. It is fully customisable, so once installed you should never again go over your data limit.
10. RetirePlan
URL: http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/retireplan/id435739013
Platform: iPad
Cost: Free
Many young people delay thinking about the boring subject of pensions until one day they wake up in a panic realising that it?s high time they began to at least think about the distant future and whatthey will actually have to live on when they retire.
Like many of the apps reviewed, RetirePlan simply takes the pain out of calculations, in this case, to give you a clearer idea of what your retirement finances will look like.
If questions have cropped up in your mind such as ?when can I retire??, ?how much money will I get every year in my retirement??, ?how long will my money hold out in retirement?? and the all important ?how much should I really be saving every year for my retirement?? ? then this app is for you.
It only takes a few minutes to input the crucial data and a few assumptions, and you?ll soon get a reasonable idea of how your financial retirement will look ? which may actually panic you into planning more seriously for what now may seem in the dim and distant future.
And another joy of this app is that you can change and add to your personal information as time passes, and with the more information you supply, comes more detail on how you can refine your plan.
We hope these iOS app reviews have been useful, and that you?ve downloaded at least one on the basis of our recommendations. As always, if you have any suggestions on any personal finance app you?ve found useful, please share it with us in the comments.
And we know not everyone owns Apple devices, so next time we?ll be reviewing and recommending the best of the best Android personal finance apps.
