Off-duty police officer saves pets from house fire - ABC27 WHTM

MARIETTA, Pa. (WHTM) -

When Jeff Sosnoski saw smoke coming from a Marietta home after work Thursday, he jumped from his car and jumped into action.

Sosnoski, a criminal investigator for Susquehanna Regional police, told a bystander to kick in the door of the home in the 600 block of East Market Street.

"He kicked the door in. We ran in the house. I grabbed two, there were three dogs inside," Sosnoski said.

The bystander grabbed the other pup, and a cat was taken out of the home by firefighters once the blaze was under control.

The two-alarm fire at around 2 p.m. sent firefighters from surrounding departments to the scene. Officials said the blaze started on a rear deck and worked its way up the back of the house into the attic. They estimate the house has $150,000 in damages.

The owners were not home at the time and no one was injured.

The fire remains under investigation. Authorities said they believe an electrical problem may have started it.
