North Korea yesterday threatened a ?merciless military strike? if South Korean activists go ahead with plans to send thousands of anti-regime propaganda leaflets attached to hot air balloons on Monday.
But the organisers of the leaflet exercise refused to stand down, and the South Korean Government insisted that it would respond in kind to any attack on its territory. ?If that happens, we will strike back at the origin of fire,? the Defence Minister, Kim Kwan Jin, told the Yonhap news agency.
The North has made similar threats before against the balloon-borne pamphlets, which are regularly released by a coalition
